History

Being the first scientific research and product development body set up in China's automotive industry since founding of P.R.C, R & D Center of China FAW Group Corporation has a long history. Changchun Automotive Research Institute (CARI) is its forerunner, and now it consists of FAW Design Department, Changchun Material Research Institute as well as CARI. Forerunner of its main body-Changchun Automotive Research Institute was an automotive test lab attached to Automotive Industry Preparatory Group founded on No. 76 Nanchizi Road, Beijing on July 3 1950. This lab covered an area of more than 1000 square meters. It is also a place where Chinese automotive engineers grew up generation by generation. The Center witnessed four development phases since July 3 1953 till now:

    Founded in Beijing:1950 ~1957
    Moved to Changchun: 1957 ~ 1979
    Joined in FAW: 1979 ~ 2001
    R&D Center reorganizing: Since 2001
